The ladies of Broadway are required to sing in both Belt & Legit styles. For WOMEN ONLY (sorry guys, you don’t Belt), come hone your skills with master voice teacher Mary Setrakian. Singers, actors and dancers of ALL levels will benefit professionally.
Each woman is asked to bring 2 contrasting songs: one Belt (chest voice) & one Legit (soprano). Please bring several to choose from the first day. If you don’t know what to bring, Mary will have the materials.
The last day there will be an open Master Class and private performance for friends, colleagues and family to see the work and participate in open feedback. Susan Campanaro will emcee.
Mary Setrakian has performed on Broadway and internationally as a belter and high legit soprano for three decades. Legit roles include over 20 leading ladies with the off-Broadway repertory company – The Light Opera of Manhattan, Madame Giry in Phantom of the Opera, and on Broadway in Hello, Dolly! starring Carol Channing. Mary’s award winning belt performances include Fanny Brice in Funny Girl, the Narrator in Joseph, Trina in Falsettos and perhaps the highest belting role in musical theatre history, Eva Peron in the world tour of Evita.
As a voice teacher, Mary prepared Nicole Kidman for her Golden Globe Award winning and Oscar nominated performance in Moulin Rouge. She has worked for Disney as the vocal coach to cast members of their Broadway and National Touring companies. Mary is internationally known, teaching in Portugal, England, Russia, and throughout Italy since 2005. Other voice students include Mary J. Blige, Kerry Washington, Kate Winslet, James Gandolfini, Bella Thorne, Juliette Binoche, Aida Turturro, Mickey Dolenz, Bobby Cannavale, and Broadway star Sierra Boggess. Mary holds a BA in music from Stanford University and a Masters in voice performance with distinction from the New England Conservatory. She has studied acting with her mentor Susan Batson for over 30 years.
